1. Introduction
The AI Butler (“Butler”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates theaibutler.co and the Butler Chrome extension. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding it. By using Butler you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address and name via our authentication provider.
Content you tag. When you use the Butler Chrome extension to tag a webpage or highlight text, we store the URL and any highlighted text you choose to capture.
Digest preferences. We store your topic tags, preferred digest delivery time, and any feedback (thumbs up / thumbs down) you give on individual articles.
Usage and log data. We collect standard server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. We use privacy-respecting product analytics (PostHog) and performance measurement (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights) to understand how Butler is used and to keep the site fast; these tools may set first-party cookies. We do not use third-party advertising cookies and we do not sell your data. Session cookies set by our authentication provider are strictly necessary for keeping you signed in.
3. How We Use Your Information
Personalised digests. We use your tags to crawl the web for relevant news and compile a daily email digest tailored to your topics.
AI processing. Article content is processed by AI providers for summarisation and relevance scoring to build your digest. Your personal identity is never shared with AI providers — only article text is processed.
Email delivery. Your digest is delivered to your email address via our transactional email provider.
Service improvement.Aggregate usage data (never individual browsing history) may be used to improve Butler's relevance and performance.
4. Third-Party Services
Butler uses trusted third-party service providers to operate the service. These providers receive only the data necessary to perform their specific function:

5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data (email, tags, captures, digests) is deleted within 30 days. Anonymised aggregate data may be retained indefinitely.
6. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing hello@theaibutler.co. We will respond within 30 days. To delete your account entirely, use the account settings page in the Butler dashboard.
7. Children's Privacy
Butler is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact hello@theaibutler.co and we will delete it promptly.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Butler after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
